A Watch Night Service
—————
Held At the Congregational Church On Sunday Night. Was a Most Delightful Affair.
—————
An inspiring New Year’s Watch Night service was held by the Christian Endeavor society of the Congregational church Sunday night. The members gathered at 10:30 and enjoyed an hour and a half program. Refreshments were served followed with talks by college and university students home for the holidays.
Harry Augustine told of the work of the university Y.M.C.A. at Madison, and of his trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he was a delegate to the national conference. He is treasurer of the organization at Madison and is planning to go out on a deputation team in February.
Tom Pinney, a freshman at the university this year told of his contact with the Christian Endeavor society of one of the Madison churches and the splendid social and religious work being done among the students.
Wright Ihlenfeld from Marquette university related some interesting experiences and lauded the school spirit which prevails there.
Gail Bingham spoke of the Endowment Fund at Milwaukee Downer and the enthusiastic spirit shown by all the students in furthering this campaign.
Evelyn Meverden described the results of the Y.W.C.A. work at Lawrence College and how much it is being appreciated by the incoming students who get their first impressions of college life through a student religious organization.
As the new year was ushered in Mr. Warren closed the meeting with prayer and the reading of the Traveler’s Psalm (121) as a fitting Scripture passage for 1923.
A large number of people were present and all pronounced this type of New Year’s Watch service well worth while.

[Psalm 121:
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.]
