“Abortion” from the May 15, 1973 Door County Advocate
ABORTION
Dear Concerned,
Mr. Werkheiser’s letter on abortion made me sick and I hope that for those who read it and are contemplating abortion it also makes them sick.
The Supreme Court condemns capital punishment for murders yet they say that it is perfectly all right to murder an unborn child. Some time take a look in a doctor book and see how that little glob of what you and other people call nothing grows. Do you know that at six months a baby can live outside of the mother‘s womb?
Let me tell you that there is no such thing as an unwanted child. If you do not want your children then give them away. There are thousands of people waiting to take them. If you are married and have children I feel sorry for them knowing that they are not wanted and if you are so concerned and believe so in your conviction then why didn‘t you have guts enough to sign your name? Anyone who said what you did should stand up and be counted. If you do not want another child then don’t get that way in the first place.
How long do you think that God is going to permit the slaughter of millions of innocent children in this country and not punish us for it? As a woman in Michigan said, when criticized for all the children that she had (10), “I would rather have them on my pillow than on my soul.”

Art Werkheiser’s April 19, 1973 letter describes, “four ways to kill an unborn child”.
The U.S. Supreme Court later allowed for executions on July 2, 1976.
