Art Teacher Program Set
Verra L. Sauer, Corres.
EPHRAIM — The Peninsula Arts association will offer the first program of the season on Saturday evening June 15th. Sune Richards, teacher of art photography at the Milwaukee vocational school, will give her lecture, “My Search for the Disciples,” showing also her photographs of the people she found who resemble and have the physical characteristics of the disciples.
Mrs. Richards has had enthusiastic responses to her lecture where ever it has been given. Donald Hacker of the Milwaukee Optimist club writes “We thank you for your wonderful program. Your presentation was inspiring and as you know, was met with great enthusiasm.”
This program is open to everyone and those interested are invited to come to the Ephraim Moravian church on Saturday evening, June 15 at 8 o’clock to hear Mrs. Richards.
The Ephraim Woman’s club will hold the regular monthly business meeting in the village hall on Friday morning, June 7, at 10 o’clock. At the last meeting the club voted unanimously to have the chairman of the civic committee, Mrs. Leon Statham, attend the May meeting of the village board to protest the bill boards in Ephraim which do not comply with the village zoning law.
It was therefore with great appreciation for the strength of the editorial that we wish to congratulate Chan Harris for his protest against the mutilation of the beauty of our scenery, our one great asset. No one objects to small attractive, artistic signs which give directions as to how to reach our shops and the businesses that add to the appeal of our county. Why it is necessary to blot our highways with huge commercial city signs, the very thing our resorters are trying to eliminate from their lives, is a question we can well ask ourselves. Why can’t we as a county unite to have a system of signs which will add to the attractiveness of our resort area rather than to mar and detract from it?
On the afternoon of June 7, the Ephraim Woman’s club will entertain the Fish Creek Woman’s club at a tea at the home of Mrs. David Stevens on the North Coral Hill rd.
On June 8, the Ohnesorges, Mrs. Arnold, Mrs. Paul and Mrs. Walter, are serving a turkey dinner at “Greenwood” Dining Room, the proceeds of which will go to the furnace fund at the Bethany Lutheran church. Serving will be from 5 to 8 o’clock and the dinner is open to the public.
One of the happiest birthday parties I have heard of was the one Gloria Koehler Olson with her mother, Mrs. Arnold Koehler, gave for her daughter, Cindy, in honor of her 4th birthday. Sixteen children gathered in the Koehlers’ spacious yard, from the ages of 18 months to 5 years, and as one of the mothers told me this morning, there was never an argument or a dissention which needed the interference of the hostess or any of the mothers present. The outdoor swings, the toys, the pleasure of being together kept these little folks happy. Cindy also helped her Uncle Selden Olson celebrate their mutual birthday, June 1, on Saturday. Many good wishes to both of them.
Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Byfield have returned for the season from their winter in California.
Mr. and Mrs. George Martin have come from their home in Winter Haven, Fla. for the summer.
The Floyd Dickersons have opened their home on the German rd. where they plan to spend the following months.

Mrs. Bernal Tatmun, Mrs. Henri Chomeau and Miss Harriet Tatmun are arriving this week to spend the summer. The Bernal Chomeaus and their small sons, Stewart and Douglas, are at present staying in the Chomeau home on Highway 42. They and the Gerry Chomeaus are spending the summer in Europe while Mrs. Henri Chomeau will have her grandchildren, Stewart and Douglas as her guests.
Mr. and Mrs. John Riorden spent Memorial Day week in their home on Spruce st. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Davis opened their home on the North rd.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Gerhardy were back in their new home on Highway 42.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schwab have as their guests their grandchildren, Johnnie and Ann, and their daughter, Mrs. John McMurray, the former Sue Schwab.
Mr. and Mrs. Griffith Kennelley have had the Bob Kennelleys, their son and daughter-in-law, from Fort Worth, Tex. as their guests for the past two weeks. The Kennelley home on the S. Coral Hill rd. was sold over the weekend although the transaction has not been completed.
Miss Judy Jensen will be employed at the Bay View Market this summer. The Sandwich Bar will not be opened.
Mrs. Franklyn Rohn and Miss Elsa Wilmanns of Milwaukee were the guests of Miss Verra Sauer for the Memorial Day weekend.

Mrs. Harvey Miller arrived from California in time to open her shop the Cabin Craft for Memorial Day and is now spending a few days in Milwaukee visiting her mother, Mrs. Heise. Miss Marge Webb was also here for the opening of the shop. Mrs. John Holbrook will assist Mrs. Miller again this year and rumor has it that Susie Gerhardy will also be part of the staff.
About 40 people attended the booster meeting for the Peninsula Music Festival on Saturday evening at the Anderson Hotel. The Wisconsin Federation of Music clubs will again make a weekend pilgrimage to the festival. It was also expected that with Rudolph Gans celebrating his 80th birthday this year, that the concert featuring his compositions will be sold out. Mr. Gans will be present when his artist pupil, Mayne Miller, will play Mr. Gans’ piano concerto.
