"Do you think the Advocate gives fair coverage to girls' and boys' sports?" from the February 28, 1978 Door County Advocate
Lina Adams asks
Do you think the Advocate gives fair coverage to girls' and boys' sports?
Eva Kita, Egg Harbor: "We haven't any children in school so I couldn't really say. I don't read the sports that closely but I know girls' sports is an up and coming thing and gradually I notice the girls are getting more pictures in the paper."
Palmy Jeanquart, Brussels: "I think the paper gives girls good coverage. I haven't heard any complaints that the girls should get more. Very nice."
Sue Mine, Little Sturgeon: "I think the girls get adequate coverage. Girls sports have progressed more through the years and I think they are getting better coverage."
Al Johnson, Sister Bay: "I think generally speaking they do a good job in sports. I think we could get a little more coverage for Gibraltar — there are a lot of people that think that way. I think we have good ski teams up here that don't get the coverage they should. It would be nice if the Advocate could cover the lower grades when the kids are competing in sports. It would mean much to those kids psychologically to see their names in print."
Marcella Naze, Forestville: "I think it does. When I get the Advocate I see quite a bit of sports coverage for the girls."
Comments at the coffee shop: "I think the girls get too much coverage now.”
"I would like to see more pictures of girls' sports — they are better to look at.”
"The girls are getting too much coverage this year — they even made the front page of the Advocate."
