Dr. George Roenning now at Door County Medical Center
Dr. George H. Roenning
Dr. George H. Roenning, 33, a native of Wyalusing, Pa., recently joined Dr. John Beck and Dr. Edward McAuliffe in family practice at the Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.
Dr. Roenning received a bachelor of science in chemistry from Bucknell university in Lewisburg, Pa., and then went on to study medicine at Rutgers Medical School in Rutgers, N.J. His internship and residency were completed at St. Mary’s hospital, Madison, a UW-Madison affiliate hospital.
Following his graduation from college, in 1968 Dr. Roenning taught high school mathematics briefly before going into the Army where he served for two years as the administrator of a small hospital in Alaska.
Family practice covers everything from the pre-natal care of mothers right on through to the care of senior citizens. Dr. Roenning anticipates he will be covering everything except major surgery.
He says he is most looking forward to delivering babies because he feels that is the nucleus for setting up a good family practice.
“First you take care of the mother, next you deliver the baby and then you follow through with care for the mother and infant and often the father. That is why they call it family medicine,” he explained.
Dr. Roenning says he feels that continuity is important in medicine. “You can best take care of a person by knowing him—what he wants out of life and from medical care and then you can begin to interact with the patient. I feel good communication between the patient and doctor is most important.”
Dr. Roenning is a member of the State and American Academies of Family Practice, the county medical association and Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honorary society.
He and his wife Barbara have two children. Laura, six, and Eric, nine months. Mrs. Roenning has a degree in accounting and enjoys sewing and working with antiques.
The Roennings enjoy hunting, fishing and cross country skiing and were happy to move to Door county where such activities are easily accessible.
Besides practicing at the Door County Medical Center, Dr. Roenning will also see patients at the satellite clinics in Sister Bay and Washington Island.
“I’m delighted with the people I’ve met in Door county and am looking forward to practicing here.” Dr. Roenning says.
