HUNDREDS IN CITY SATURDAY
——————
The Attraction Was Noelck & Paas’ Santa Claus and the Courtesies Extended to All
——————
Saturday was indeed a big day in this city and it is certain that there were more people in from the surrounding country, both north and south, than there has been for some time. Judging from the hundreds of children who were given candy and taking into consideration the fact that several hundred pounds of sweets were given out and that three entertainments had to be given so that all could witness the treat, we would not hesitate to say that over 700 people were in the city. This included Sawyer for the gathering from this ward was a very large one.
The festivities started in the afternoon at 1:15 when the hundreds of children from Sawyer followed Santa Claus to this side of the bay. At the foot of the bridge the large throng was swelled by a few hundred more children and the procession with the band at the head proceeded up the street to the Noelck & Paas store. Here every single child was given a bag of fresh candy and an art calendar.
Following the distribution of candy the many older people and children were given a treat in the form of an entertainment by Messrs Beck, Kretlow and others. The entertainment included musical numbers by Mr. Beck, dancing by Mr. Kretlow and Miss Wieting, and music by several instruments including the Apollo player piano. It was necessary to give three entertainments, for just as soon as one was over the hall was completely filled again.
The many people present were well pleased with the courtesies extended and expressed their hearty appreciation of the entertainment.
