Lighthouse pulls Duclons together
They come from the east and they come from the west. At Eagle Bluff Lighthouse they reunite.
The living quarters of Eagle Lighthouse in Peninsula State park have been restored and furnished to represent those of Captain and Mrs. William Duclon and their seven sons. The Duclon family tended the light for 43 of its 102 operating years.
Although all members of the immediate family are now dead, grandchildren and their descendants continue its legend.
July 30, Mrs. Ray Pluff of San Diego, Calif. and Mrs. Larry McMonagle of Pennellville, N. Y. sisters and great granddaughters of William Duclon, were reunited after five years. They accompanied their mother, Mrs. Harold Shine of Green Bay, to Eagle Lighthouse.
The small kitchen of the lighthouse was once again filled with activity and merriment. Visitors and the children of Mrs. Pluff and Mrs. McMonagle listened to their grandmother tell stories of her grandmother.
Throughout the summer other relatives have created similar scenes.
The restored building is operated by the Door County Historical Society. For a nominal fee guided tours are available to the public Tuesday through Sunday.
