Vietnam film At 1st Baptist
“Viet Nam Profile,” a dramatic documentary film produced by Dr. Bob Pierce for World Vision International will be presented in a special showing at the First Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay, Sunday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. A free will offering will be taken. The public is invited.
The sound-color documentary, 80 minutes in length, takes the viewer through war-torn Viet Nam portraying “the drama of God at work in the midst of war.”
Dr. Pierce, president of World Vision International, spent the major part of two years in Viet Nam filming and directing production of “Viet Nam Profile,” while establishing his organization’s vast relief program there.
“Viet Nam Profile” shows the people of the war-torn little country—the colorful aboriginal mountain tribespeople as well as the Vietnamese people themselves. It takes the viewer into scenes of actual combat. It follows missionaries and Vietnamese Christians in their faithful and often heroic labors for Christ. It depicts the ministries of a typical U. S. chaplain.
Narration and most of the filming were done by Dr. Pierce personally, assisted by Cameramen Nguyen van Duc of Viet Nam and Y. B. Tang of Hong Kong. Ralph Carmichael composed and directed original music for the film.
World Vision, with its international headquarters in Monrovia, California, cares for over 22,000 needy children in 19 countries. It has launched an all-out aid program in Viet Nam, building refugee centers, providing hundreds of crutches and wheelchairs for war amputees, distributing countless thousands of relief packets and supporting war widows as well as blind students, orphans and other needy children.
[“Escape to Nowhere: A special report on the Vietnamese boat refugees”, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0B6keSs0qo, is not the same video as the one mentioned in the article, but was made by the same organization. This film shows the rescue of people who had fled Vietnam, but had been robbed of their possessions and were adrift at sea.]
