“Would Organize Historical Society” from the September 10, 1925 Door County News
WOULD ORGANIZE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
H. R. Holand of Ephraim was in the city Thursday, during which he sounded the sentiment of the business men relative to the founding of a Door County Historical Society.
The purpose of the organization is to perpetuate the numerous historical spots within the borders of the county by marking them with appropriate tablets, which would explain the historical event.
It is felt that this would make the county more interesting to tourists and summer visitors.
Door county, and particularly the east shore of the peninsula and Washington Island, has numerous spots of highly interesting and historic value, as has been shown in the history written by Mr. Holand entitled “Old Peninsula Days.”
Other counties in the state have adopted this method of perpetuating its early history and thus added to its interest to visitors as well as being of educational value to the rising generation.
It is proposed to bring the matter before the civic organizations of the county, with a view of creating a society to carry out the suggestion.
